There are many types of training for athletes. You have speed training, agility training, jump training, and the most important is strength training. I'm gonna talk a little bit about the best ways to develop strength so you can knock the other players down the field. There are alot of ways to develop strength. You can just grab some heavy weights and do low reps, such as 5-8. Most people would agree that a low rep count is the best for develop great strength. Now, you have different types of techniques as far as developing strength. I'm gonna name a few.
- Drop sets
- Pyramid sets
- supersets
- Negatives
- Forced reps
Drop sets - Drop sets are used when your muscle gets fatigued and you take some weight off and basically perform the reps until you drop. A great technique but don't use it to much because it could cause you to get burned out really quickly.
Pyramid sets - This is when you go up every set in weight. Example: First set 100 pounds, second set 120 pounds etc.... Many people mix pyramid sets with drop sets and they get and incredible pump. Basically on your last pyramid set drop the weight and pump out as many as you can.
Supersets - Supersets are done one after another. Usually you would combine two different types of exercises for the same muscle group. For example: Dumbell chest flyes, then go directly into a set of pushups.
Negatives - Basically you slow down on the negative part of the movement.
Forced reps - This is done when you feel you can't do anymore, try to push out a couple even if you dont go all the way, or you can have a partner help you for a few reps.
These are some great ways to get you football players strong. I will be back with some ways to build up agility and speed.
